A central focus of the American Society is community assistance. The Community Assistance Committee (CAC) of The American Society supports various orphanages and community centers in São Paulo that provide homes, security, affection and education to children from the city’s poorest neighborhoods. Most of these children are orphaned, abandoned, abused or severely neglected and would be on the streets (or worse) if it were not for the dedication of the people who run these establishments. The CAC carefully screens each institution for a high level of integrity, a desire to improve, and a commitment to use both its money and volunteers effectively.
The CAC supports these selected institutions by giving donations of money and goods, requesting grant money for specific projects such as new classrooms, recreational facilities and basic sanitation improvements; and establishing and staffing volunteer programs. The CAC also helps these organizations by finding corporate sponsors for their special projects and initiatives and by creating opportunities for them to share successful practices with each other.
The CAC’s immediate goals are to:
All of these organizations need financial support, and most want hands-on volunteers. If you would rather donate goods or services or sponsor a company volunteer day, the CAC will help with these efforts, as well. The CAC wants to facilitate your involvement in the community of São Paulo. Community support is especially important in Brazil where the disparity of wealth is one of the highest in the world and where most charitable institutions receive no governmental support.
One way you can “Lend a Helping Hand” to these organizations is through CAC’s Operating Expense (OpEx) Charity Fund. This fund was established to provide these American Society-supported institutions with critical money needed to maintain their daily operations.
When a donation is made to this fund, the American Society will in turn match that amount for the OpEx fund. And the members of the CAC are there to ensure that these funds are used in the best possible manner.
Please consider a single donation of any amount or a monthly donation of R$50. To contribute, all that you need to do is to contact the AmSoc office.
Remember that any amount that you contribute will lead to a better life for a child in São Paulo. The members of the Community Assistance Committee appreciate your consideration and trust in your generosity.
